While walking downtown I noticed a young man waiting to cross the street on the sidewalk opposite me. He was standing on the corner with headphones covering his ears, listening to music, and bouncing his head to the beat. For a second I considered asking if I could take his picture and get his story. I decided instead to just snap one from across the street without him knowing. It's not something I'm the best at, the whole "street photography" thing. He looked over and I felt he noticed me, a missed opportunity for a candid image. Most people aren't comfortable with a stranger snapping their picture so when a person becomes aware of me I usually refrain from taking the shot.
The green man illuminated the crosswalk signal and as me and the young man walked past one another he asked, "Do you shoot videos?" I said I just shoot photographs. He turned and walked back the direction from which he came walking and sharing he is an aspiring rapper looking to make a music video. We discussed his music for a couple of minutes and I learned he'll be performing at a local open mic night soon.
When asked, he told me his name was Craig but he also goes by another name. Without going into too much detail he shared before his father passed away he would refer to Craig in his youth as Young Blizzard. It's a name he liked and keeps alive by using it as his stage name.
After talking for a couple of minutes I asked for the shot I had initially wanted, we exchanged information, and we went on our way.
